Ricky Watts came off the bench to make his 400th appearance for Haverfordwest CountyHaverfordwest County claimed another valuable point on the road as they remain unbeaten after a second successive draw this time against Cardiff Met at the Cyncoed Campus on Bank Holiday Monday.

There are four teams on eight points with Penybont leading the way on goal difference followed by Cardiff Met, Bala Town and the Bluebirds.

The visitors created the better chances but failed to find the back of Alex Lang’s net. Ben Ahmun struck the crossbar in the second half with a bullet header, which was the closest Tony Pennock’s men came to scoring.

Midway through the first area the dangerous looking Ahmun shot from distance which flew over the crossbar.

Skipper Corey Shephard’s well weighted through ball fell invitingly to Ben Fawcett who fired a vicious effort over the crossbar. Minutes later Harri John struck a low shot that Lang comfortably gathered, just before the break Shephard struck another effort which flew over the bar.

After the break Bluebirds’ keeper Zac Jones pulled off a good save to deny Sam Jones’ header from inside the box.

The industrious Bluebirds midfielder Greg Walter got on the end of a counter attack as he saw his goal bound effort tipped over the crossbar by Lang. Minutes later Ahmun headered against the crossbar, another Ahmun header, this time looped over the bar.

In the 63rd minute Ricky Watts replaced Harri John to remarkably make his 400th appearance for Haverfordwest County.

The dangerous Sam Jones had a sight at goal only to be denied by some excellent defending by Lee Jenkins and Kyle McCarthy who blocked him.

In stoppage time Owain Jones struck a shot from outside the box which flew over the crossbar, no further action as both sides settled for a point apiece.

Haverfordwest County chairman Rob Edwards on social media: “A really competitive game between two good sides. Did enough to win the game but a point at Met is always a good point. 3 clean sheets in 4 games and 8 points this start is a fantastic return.”
